The going might be a little rough to begin with as you come across anything and everything to do with magic tricks online, but with a little patience and a little judicious trawling, you should be able to come up with a site or two (or three or ten!), which gives you information and instructions on a great many different magic tricks.

You will be able to find not only free magic tricks online which deal with coins, and cards, but also those magic tricks which deals with disappearing acts, rope tricks, illusions, escape tricks and more.

If the tricks aren't available up front, then you might want to be careful as you could end up paying for your "free" magic tricks.

How to Learn Magic Tricks - A Guide For the New Magician

or someone new to magic, the first question that pops up is often, "Where can I learn new magic tricks?"  There is an endless amount of resources to help you learn magic tricks.  You can learn them in the library, on the internet, on television shows, and DVDs.  In fact, there is so much information out there that it is easy to get caught up in reading about every magic trick there is, instead of actually practicing and mastering the tricks that they are reading about.  Every time you find a trick that you find interesting, practice it until you have it completely mastered.  This way you are learning tricks as you go and you do not just become completely overwhelmed with all of the information you are taking in.

In my opinion, when trying to figure out how to learn magic tricks, the best resource out there is the internet.  There is a vast amount of information on the internet.  You can read about the history of magic all the way up to the most current tricks that are being pulled off by famous street magicians such as David Blaine.  You can find free tricks, most of which are very simple.  You can purchase instructional videos and ebooks online with very advanced tricks in them.  It doesn't matter how much of a novice you are or how much of an expert you are, there is plenty to be learned about on the internet regarding magic.  YouTube is a great source for watching and learning magic tricks.  Many popular magicians have videos of some of their tricks on YouTube.  Some even have tutorials that show you exactly how to do their tricks.  You should definitely check out YouTube for a vast amount of material related to magic.

At this day and age, believe it or not, the library is still a very strong reference point regarding magic.  Some libraries even allow members to rent out instructional DVDs about magic.  For those interested in the history of magic, the public library is as good of a place as any to find all the literature that you crave.  The best part about using the library as a resource for learning about magic, is that it is completely free.

All most all fans of magic love to watch their favorite magician pull off magic tricks on television.  With the recent increase of popularity in street magic, there has been a lot more magic on television.  Criss Angel and David Blaine have brought a lot of publicity and mainstream news attention to magic.  David Blaine's stunts on television were some of the highest rated programs on television for the year 2008.  Criss Angel's show "Mindfreak" was also a very popular television show.

When you are attempting to figure out how to learn to magic tricks, make sure you remember the most important aspect of all.  Have fun!  If you are struggling with a trick, forget about it and try a new one.  Do not let it get you down, focus on the tricks that are the most fun to learn and execute.

Magic Tricks Explained on Video

Everyone loves magic! It can be absolutely mind-blowing and miraculous, mysterious and often very funny and amusing. At the very least it can be very entertaining.

However, for those who are serious about learning how to do magic tricks and even aspire to the professional ranks, often find it difficult to learn great tricks, as most top magicians just won't tell them how their miracles are done. So what's an aspiring magician to do?

At Last! A host of Amazing Magic Tricks and routines, fully demonstrated and explained on video, so that they can be easily understood by anyone, whether they be complete beginner or seasoned professional magician.

A few days ago The Magic Touch announced the launch of an Exclusive Online Magic Club entitled, "The Inner Circle Monthly Magic Club".

The idea behind this new Magic Club was to bring the huge range of magic tricks, routines and tips from their already successful Monthly CD Course, to a more easily accessible online format. And so The Inner Circle Magic Club Membership site was formed.

The original "Ultimate Pro' Magic Course" consisted of 26 CD's in order to cater for the huge amount of content of photographs and large video files.

These were distributed as 2 CD's each month and shipped to the customer's postal address. This often meant up to 2 weeks delay in delivery, due to the various postal services of different countries and I for one hate having to pay for any item and have to wait for a week or more for delivery.

All of us magic nuts, from 9 to 90, get exciting about learning new tricks, but sadly that excitement tends to wear off when you have to wait as much as two weeks for delivery. - However, a solution is found!

Now the monthly magic videos can be viewed in the secure Member's Area of the club, almost immediately.

Having seen the vast array of professional Magic tricks and routines available to members over about 24 months or so, I can honestly say that the true value of this club to any aspiring magician is priceless.

However, I understand that the monthly offering of real professional magic costs members no more than a meal for two at your local restaurant.

Any top magician will tell you that the best magic is usually the simplest magic, as the audience tend to look for some sophisticated apparatus or try to detect some slick moves or difficult sleight of hand and are completely baffled and blown away by the simplest of routines often using ordinary everyday objects.

It's also important for magicians to build a reasonable repertoire of tricks and routines, because once you have performed just one little trick for friends or family, 'you are a magician', and no matter where you go people will expect you to do something magical.

So if you have ever performed just one magic trick, you had better start to build your repertoire and joining a magic club is a wise move and the real advantage of an online club is that the tricks are demonstrated and explained right there online and you can practice your amazing routines in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

Over the months, members will learn all types of magic, including card tricks, rope tricks, coin tricks and money magic; tricks with newspapers and other everyday items like bottles, cups, spoons, string, keys, rings, handkerchiefs etc. - street magic and close-up magic suitable for today's "table hopping" and Corporate Event type of performance. There are also video instructions for professional stage and cabaret magic.

It is everything you could wish for in a serious professional private magic club, yet it is easily accessible to all those genuinely interested in the Magic Art, and at a very modest monthly membership fee.

This is No Trick, it's just Pure Magic!

How to Perform a Magic Trick

When it comes to being a magician or even learning the skills that help one effectively entertain their family and friends, knowing how to execute a few magic tricks becomes a very necessary part of the process. No matter how complicated or amazing the magic, there is always a secret that in many cases, is rather easy to achieve. Magic tricks have the power to captivate and fool an entire audience into thinking there is no way to explain what they have just seen. For onlookers, not knowing the secret is part of the entertainment - once the secret has been revealed - the trick has lost most of its appeal. But for magicians and other performers, knowing the secret is part of the delight that comes with achieving magic.

A wide range of interested parties uses magic to their advantage. Some people, such as magicians and clowns, use magic as their main source of income. Others, like the simple hobbyist, enjoy being the life of the party or center of attention when they are able to entertain their peers with magic. Self-working magic tricks involves effects that do not demand a high level of skill. Instead, they are usually learned rather quickly. Many people consider the magic tricks based on simple principles as some of the best.

When learning a magic trick, there are many different factors to consider. Depending on the level of difficulty, practice does make perfect. Some people must develop the ability to use their hands, body language, and even their words to direct onlookers into believing in the magic trick. While many magic tricks use the same technique or basic foundation, not all performances are the same. Whenever a coin disappears or a magician pulls a rabbit out of his or her hat, there is a certain level of showmanship that makes or breaks the delivery. This is why it is important to work on presentation skills so that one may further mesmerize a crowd.
Magicians just starting out in the business generally learn magic tricks that involve coins and cards. The abracadabra and sleight of hands associated with coin tricks, helps make them one of the most popular forms of magic. In order to master most coin tricks, one must possess a certain amount of dexterity pertaining to their ability to use their hands to successfully perform a trick. If you move too slow or too obvious, the secret is blown.

After reading a step-by-step instruction on how to perform a certain magic trick, it may take a little while to get the hang of. While some budding magicians take a few hours to understand the mechanics of a trick, others could spend days learning the same. It is important to correctly perform the magic trick or else the secret to the magic becomes too obvious. Before bragging about your trick, it is suggested to test your newfound knowledge on a family member. If they ask you how you were able to "make their card appear out of thin air," then you know you have done well.

While card and coin magic tricks are interesting to learn, there are many other simple selections to add to your repertoire that utilize other objects as part of the main theme. In the Color-Changing Handkerchiefs trick, a magician makes the audience believe they have the power to transform a handkerchief of one color into another by simply pushing it through their hand.

The Chinese Linking Rings trick uses solid rings as part of a classic magic trick of illusion. Magicians, who sometimes use fancy costumes, music, and other gimmicks, show that they can make solid rings appear to link and unlink many times. Some people will use money to perform a magic trick, such as switching a $1 bill with a $100 bill, and making ripped dollars become whole again.

With one of the oldest recorded magic tricks in history, the Great Pyramids of Egypt show the ins and outs of the Cups and Balls trick, which includes the use of stackable plastic or metal cups and small balls. In a trick known to some as the Professor's Nightmare, three unequal lengths of rope are used to perform magic where in the end - each piece of rope becomes the same length.

In regards to magic, the possibilities are never-ending and it is important to remember that no two magicians will perform the same trick and reach the same reaction. Careful practice and patience is needed in the world of magic and in no time, you can move from simple tricks of sight to making things disappear and reappear before the eyes of your audience.

Magic Tricks And Other Magic Products And How To Sell Them On EBay

Tricks in ready supply, from wholesalers or on dropship can be listed 'Buy It Now' on eBay at just a few pounds profit apiece and still make cumulatively very good profits. The secret is to buy a few tricks individually from wholesalers or dropshippers (preferably wholesalers because you'll get a discount on bulk buys later) and test the money making potential of those items. You should estimate price potential by auctioning your test products over a few different auctions (regular and Buy It Now), then check what prices are achieved and how many Second Chance Offers are possible.

Having finished testing, you then need to decide whether to stick to auction format or use 'Buy It Now' coupled with multiple product listings. You can check what other magic tricks sellers are doing for the same or similar products by sorting through eBay's magic trick categories. Tricks old and new usually go under 'Collectibles > Fantasy / Myth / Magic > Trick' in both the USA and the UK. Note that 'Collectibles' USA style (the correct spelling), is spelled 'Collectables' on ebay.co.uk. Check out current and completed listings to get a feel for starting prices, listing types, finishing results from tricks similar to those you propose selling.

MORE TRICKS TO HELP YOU MAKE MONEY FROM MAGIC ON EBAY

* Once you have a winning product, at auction or 'Buy It Now', keep listing that product every seven or ten days and always in your shop, and begin buying in bulk from wholesalers where the more you buy the bigger the discounts usually become. Be sure always to buy in sufficient quantity to fulfill sales for a few weeks ahead based on orders placed in recent weeks.

* Be very careful and do not overstock on any product you sell which is not your own creation or otherwise available only from you. This is because, once you have a winning product, you'll find copycats arriving to take advantage of all your hard work and that might mean a drop in your market share. Note, however, copycats rarely prosper, they don't like hard work, and many are short lived and not a major threat to experienced eBay sellers like you and me.

* Be on constant lookout for new tricks to test and estimate profit potential. Continuously add to your range of tricks and aim to sell hundreds, better still thousands of low to high profit tricks every month, as do eBay shop owners like: Troll and Toad (24,891 magic related listings), Hocus Jokus (4,994 magic listings), Phat Dog Magic (555 Listings), Magic by Mail (396 items). Troll and Toad, for example, sold over 5,000 magic items last month, at prices ranging from 1 cent (almost certainly to grow a mailing list for back end and outside of eBay selling) to several thousand dollars for rare antique magic books and games. Of thousands of items on sale, Troll and Toad have just 37 auction listings, a good indication of the power of using just a few standard auction listings to drive traffic from eBay's main listings to the seller's eBay store. All those shop listed items cost around one quarter the price of individual auction listings, meaning low overheads and higher unit profits per sale. But there's a problem for eBayers using mainly shop listings as the next paragraph shows.

* Except for eBayers choosing higher price shop subscriptions or generating traffic themselves to their shop listings, shop listed products are disregarded by eBay's search engines, especially for high demand items with countless eager sellers. This means if someone keys words into eBay's search facility to describe products similar to those you are selling in an eBay shop, it's very unlikely your listings will show in eBay's search results which overwhelmingly favour auction listings. This makes it a very good idea to always have a few auction listings each week and to use those listings to direct traffic to your eBay Shop. In doing so, you will find some people visiting your auction listings will find their own way into your shop. But that's hitty-missy and definitely not recommended. Far better to be creative and use auction listings not just to sell your product but most importantly to attract buyers to your shop.

* Be sure to use words in your titles that potential buyers actually use to locate products such as you are selling. Otherwise all your listings will go unnoticed. Mistakes and oversights are easy as I found while researching this feature for which I subsequently found the answer in an article I've included later, by Sally Neill.

I had thought everyone would consider 'magic' the most important word in the title for any magic trick selling on eBay, which in the majority of cases it was. But having researched 'magic trick', I began looking for specific tricks, using coins and playing cards, for example, and I spotted a great many listed as 'coin trick', 'card trick', 'card sleight of hand', without 'magic' in the title. Anyone looking for 'coin magic' as I would have done would not see hundreds of titles missing that vital word 'magic'.

It transpired that 'magic' is a popular keyword and, I found that coin and card tricks, for example, with 'magic' in the title sold on average twice as well as listings without 'magic'. There are other words, also, used in your title, that determine whether your listing will respond - or not - to eBay's search engines.

For more information about popular and prolific keywords and phrases used to find magic tricks on eBay, go to eBay's Pulse Pages where you'll find lots of information to help you choose the most appropriate category and words to describe and list your products.

These are the most frequently used key words and phrases used in the UK to find magic tricks:
magic tricks
magic the gathering (an incredibly popular and profitable computer game, not much connected with magic tricks)
magic cards
magic illusion
magic dvd
magic set
magic kit
stage magic
magic coins
magic stuff
magic illusions
magic trading cards

How to Master Professional Magic Tricks in 4 Easy Steps

Anyone can perform professional magic tricks; all it takes is courage and commitment. Most magicians can truthfully say that the majority of tricks in their bag are relatively easy to perform, yet the real work is done offstage with hours of practice. Many professional magic tricks are based on scientific principles, and learning what makes them work goes a long way in making a better performance.

Whether you want to make a lasting name for yourself, or if you just want to be the life of the next party, here are a few keys tips to developing a set of professional magic tricks.

1) Learn Each Trick Completely
If you are a beginner, learn simple tricks first. The procedures for doing magic tricks can be found online or even in books from your local library. Even though tricks may be classified as easy, study and memorize every step. This will be good training for you when you advance to more difficult tricks. Get into the habit of learning each trick completely; this is a good first step to performing professional quality magic tricks.

2) Practice Makes Perfect
Sometimes, practicing is the hardest part. We all want to immediately work in front of an audience to hear their applause and gasps of wonder. But to get the accolades, you must first do the time. Practice your magic tricks before a mirror, or videotape yourself for a play by play account. Practicing is never a waste of time.

Each minute brings you closer to your goal of performing professional magic tricks. When you watch your performance, either in a mirror or on videotape, you can spot any mistakes or actions that should be corrected. Practicing is the best way to progress.

3) Zero in on Details
Once you get the hang of a few tricks and understand the basics of magic, you may think you can relax a bit. Not so. Magic tricks, even the simple ones, have details that can't be overlooked.

Every magician knows that their entire performance may hinge on the smallest of details. Never look for a shortcut; there are none in magic. Professional magic tricks succeed because the magician considers every step and detail to be equally important.

4) Simplicity Equals Success
Here is an amazing and totally true thought: Most magic tricks are incredibly simple. Of course, professionals want their magic tricks to confound and astound, but the reality is that these illusions are based on easy to learn principles. Sometimes, most of the magic is in the magician's performance, rather than the trick itself. Many tricks that are currently seen in shows today are actually hundreds of years old. This testifies to the magician's everlasting ability to entertain and to the audience's never ceasing wonder.

To perform professional magic tricks, first develop a professional attitude and then practice until your skills are of professional quality. Remember that a professional is merely someone who has studied and mastered his subject. In the case of magic, anyone can reach this level with a determined commitment and a desire to be the best they can be. Before going onstage, repeatedly practice your act offstage. And then listen to the applause that you will conjure up!

Top 3 Magic Trick Tips to Performing Magic

Magic has been around for as long as one can remember. Magic is something that can take people from reality to fantasy. I have been interested in magic since I was just little toddler. I'll never forget the day when I actually thought that my very own ear could produce nickels and dimes, real money! I was amazed at how my uncle could just reach out to my ear and pull out a dime at will. This was unbelievable in my eyes! What was more unbelievable was that my uncle actually let me keep the money that he kept pulling from my ear. I would run down to the local candy store and get my favorite sugar coated candy and would be on cloud nine for the rest of the day. Funny thing was, is when I tried to reach into my ear, there was no money coming out.

How was it that my uncle could do such a thing and I couldn't? Well that is when I needed to find out how this was done and was introduced to the wonderful world of magic!

Over the years I have learned many magic tricks. From getting my first magic trick set, you know, the 50 magic tricks in one box set, classic stuff. They still sell the same magic tricks in that one box that I learned 25 odd years ago. Nicer packaging of course and just slightly more expensive, but still a great introduction to magic. The one thing that is not taught in these magic trick sets is the actual art of performing the actual magic trick. We can all follow the instructions on how to do to the magic trick, but no one really tells us what to say or how to act before, during, and after the magic trick. I have learned over the years through experience and from watching the masters of magic first hand, on exactly what it takes to create the moment of astonishment and disbelief. I present to you, The Top 3 Magic Trick Tips to Performing Magic! These will guarantee great reactions and memorable moments when performing your future magic tricks.

1. Patter - This is the most important piece of your routine when doing magic tricks. You can take an ordinary magic trick and turn it into a whole theatrical event if you can come up with the right dialogue to assist your magic trick. Now this is hard to teach but there are some common rules you should follow. One is to always look into your spectators' eye. Make sure you have their attention and they are listening to your every word.

Second is humor. Humor is what gets people in a relaxed state and sets them up to be caught off guard as to what you are about to perform.

2. After Effect - Once you have performed your magic trick and your spectator is freaking out as to what they have just witnessed, do not say nothing to them. Just stay quiet for a minute and just stare at them. I do this all the time and it drives people nuts! They will just flip out, wanting to know what just happened but you are not saying a word. You just let them talk and talk and they will build up what just happened even more just by themselves. Try it, it works, you'll see what I mean.

 3. Confidence - You have to go in knowing that you are going to pull off one of the biggest magic tricks ever. You can't be going in nervous or weak, it will show and take away from the trick as the spectator will suspect something right from the beginning. Practice, practice, practice until you can do it blind folded. You need to come across as you truly are magical and have no doubt that in your mind that you can show someone something truly amazing. Your spectators will feed off this energy and will give you more respect for it.

Secrets To Performing Magic Tricks For Beginners

Many common magic tricks are easy to learn and only require common items such as matchboxes, cloths and coins to perform successfully. The most common tricks are playing card and coin tricks which are both a good way to practice technical and audience distraction skills.

Card tricks are one of the oldest forms of conjuring and perhaps the best introduction to learning magic tricks and performance for beginners. Whilst you can buy special card kits and find free magic tricks online, you should start out with a normal deck of playing cards and learn specific card magic techniques that don't rely on props.

Start small and practice, practice, practice

Some magic tricks can be complicated and take months to perfect the illusion of reality. As a beginner or novice it's important to start small with more simple tricks that require far less practice and patience. You'll get results faster, gain confidence and experience the rush and delight of being a magician for the first time.

The most basic magic tricks can still be impressive without requiring expert skills but it's important to practice as often as possible. The legendary Harry Houdini started by picking locks. He practiced so much that he could pick any lock with his hands tied or eyes blindfolded.

You can use simple household objects such as cloths, cups and bags as your props until you get the hang of each trick, then maybe you will want to buy more specialized equipment to amaze and amuse your friends and family all the more. In the meantime, it's important to gain confidence in your magic tricks and abilities before performing in front of friends, family or any audience as your ability to perform and direct a crowd is as vital to your success as your speed with a deck of cards.

The art of distraction and misdirection

The most exciting aspect of any magic trick is it's effect on a live audience. Whether you perform a magic show in front of a few friends and family or a crowd of hundreds, the buzz of hearing gasps of wonder and applause will keep you hooked for life.

Once you've mastered the basics and gained confidence in your technical abilities, you'll need to start thinking about your audience and how to use distraction and misdirection to take your magic skills to the next level. Many of the greatest magic shows and tricks use a combination of misdirection and theatrical performance to control the audience while the magician performs his secret moves.

You'll also need to develop your own style of performing magic tricks, not only to make your magic more entertaining, but as an additional prop that's just as important to your success as your box of tricks. Developing dexterity or slight of hand and practicing eye contact skills with your subjects are both essential skills of any proficient performer of magic.

Top 5 tips for learning magic tricks

Start simple - begin with tricks that don't require any props such as card tricks or coin tricks. Choose one trick and stick to it until you are proficient before learning another.
Practice - practice magic tricks until you are completely confident that you can make it work every time. Only then begin to perform it in front of others.
Confidence - Practice will give you confidence which is essential to convince your audience that not only is your magic trick magical but you are as well.
Attention and distraction - learn to hold the attention of your audience and control it with eye contact, humor and well practiced movements.
Performance and style - the best magicians are memorable not only because of their tricks, but because of the way they perform them. Give a thought to your appearance, your voice, your humor, your props and your location when performing a magic show.

Once you master these techniques, your magic tricks should leave the audience entertained and more importantly, mystified wanting to know more.

How to Start Performing Magic Tricks

Would you like to learn magic? Would you like to know how magicians begin practicing their art? Many people are mesmerized by magic, yet very few people practice the art of performing magic and illusions. Magic can be a hobby or become a full-time profession. The first step is learning where to begin.

Magicians vary in their personalities, magic tricks, and illusions performed. Whether you want to learn card tricks, do kids' magic tricks, or coin tricks, you will need to consult some sources of information first. Sources of study can be found in local libraries, bookstores, magic shops, and online sites.

It is suggested to read literature on the subject and watch live and video presentations of exhibitions. Reading and watching will teach elementary magic tricks as well as provide a sense of the importance of proper presentation. Reading can provide the know-how regarding tricks while watching them performed can teach you how to properly conceal tactics and entertain an audience while executing magic tricks.

Magicians should meet and speak to other magicians. Look in your local phonebook for magic shops in your area. In addition, you can search the Web for forums and clubs that discuss and share information on the topic (one such club is the Society of American Magicians).

Next, a beginner needs to practice coin tricks, card tricks, and other magic tricks alone and in front of small audiences. Try practicing in front of a mirror to start. Remember that anything you can spot yourself doing in the mirror can also be apprehended by the audience. Practice your magic tricks repeatedly until it become second nature to perform them flawlessly.

Showmanship is a large part of performing tricks; a magician must practice their words, inflection, body movements, and overall ability to entertain the crowd during their magic trick exhibition. Some magicians use partners to additionally entertain the crowd as well as to serve as a source to distract observer attention.

Initial Tips

- Be aware of angles while learning magic. Some tricks require you to face the crowd head on. Having the audience seated to the sides may reveal how the feats are performed.

- Borrow needed items from the audience rather than use your own. It will make it seem like the feat is more magical because you didn't have a chance to manipulate the items.

- Do not perform the same magic trick more than once in front of the same audience. Doing so would make it easier for them to guess how it was performed.

- Do not divulge how the trick is done. People will ask, but the secrets must be preserved in order to maintain observer wonderment and captivation.

- Any new magician has the ability to execute any card trick, coin trick, or other magic trick, but they must be practiced for some time before being performed in front of an audience successfully.

How to Do Magic Tricks in 3 Easy Steps

Do you want to amaze and astound your friends and family with illusions and magic tricks? Do you think it will take years and years to learn how to do magic trick? While professional magicians invest hours practicing and perfecting their performances, for those seeking to learn how to do a magic trick to liven up a party, there are several key (and quick) points to consider. Learning how to do magic trick involves only two simple procedures.

1) Learn the Trick Completely

There are no shortcuts in magic. Each magic trick has a special way of being presented to the audience. Often, the trick employs the use of a scientific principle and it would in your best interests to thoroughly understand that concept before trying out the trick.

Therefore, the first step in learning how to do magic trick is to memorize the technique of the trick. This may include holding a coin a certain way or dealing out cards in a special pattern. Fix those instructions in your mind first and when that has been done, it is time for the second part of learning how to do a magic trick.

2) Practice, Practice, Practice

While practice may seem to be tedious at times, to perform magic tricks this step is essential. Stand in front of a mirror, preferably a full length one to try out the trick. Another option is to videotape your practice time. In this way, you can be the 'audience' and observe what parts of your performance need to be improved upon.

Practicing also gives the aspiring magician an added boost of confidence. Being sure of your technique and delivery will show your audience your mastery of the magic.

3) The Secret to a Good Show

Magic requires manipulation both of the props and the audience. When you learn how to do magic trick, you take that head knowledge of the illusion and then transfer it to your hands. Although the procedure to do the trick may be relatively easy to understand, it may take some time to master the movements. Good magicians realize that the success of a trick really rests in their own hands. They are like an actor on stage, memorizing their part and then performing it with confidence.

Most magic tricks require you to misdirect your audience's attention while you manipulate the props. Although this takes a good amount of practice, once you have the knack of this, you will be on your way to fame, even if your fame is limited to family and friends.

Although many people learn how to do magic trick for fun, it can even be the start of a new career. Yes, magic can make money. Once you develop the necessary skills, and when your reputation as a magician becomes known, you may find yourself being asked to perform at a party. Never underestimate the power of magic! But until you get to that level, master each trick, practice every day and watch what happens.

Magic Tricks - Impressing Friends and Family

Learning a magic trick does not have to be difficult. Although

you typically see some of the finest magicians and illusionist

performing incredible feats, you too can impress family and

friends with basic tricks. You might not expect to perform on

the same level as David Blaine or David Copperfield but with

commitment and the right resources, you can do some amazing

things. The great thing about magic is that even some of the

simple tricks are fascinating and often difficult to figure out

to the person watching.

If you are interested in learning a magic trick, you first need

to understand the basic rules. Remember, part of any magic

trick is the way in which it is performed, meaning keeping

mystery alive. However, if you do not capture the respect of

the people by taking time to learn the trick but also practice

the trick until you have it down to a fine art, part of the

effect and integrity are lost.

For starters, even if the magic trick is simple, never tell

anyone how you did it. Keeping your trick a secret is what

makes it so exciting. Once you get your magic trick perfect,

people will ask how you did it. At this point, you need to be

polite but firm, stating something as "Sorry, I never give out

my secrets." Usually, people will back off or rib you a little

but on occasion, you might have someone that pushes the issue.

If this happens, simply remind yourself that keeping the magic

trick secret is part of the game.

Another important rule associated with magic is to perform only

when conditions are optimal. In other words, if you were to go

to a party and someone were to mention that you do magic, choose

only the tricks that you know you can do spontaneously.

Although it might be tempting to start doing trick after trick,

becoming bolder with each, know your limits. This way, you can

impress people with just one or two magic tricks rather than

bomb by a failed attempt at the third or fourth trick.

The key, even with family and friends, is to leave people

wanting to see more. As with anything, be humble, allowing the

magic trick to speak for you rather than brag about how great

you are, only to make a major mistake. If you were interested

in building a career with magic, knowing when to stop and when

to keep going is a fine line that needs to be learned. As

stated, it would be far better to know one magic trick to

perfection than to know 20 so-so. In time, you can expand on

this one magic trick, learning a second, and a third, also

perfecting them.

To become good with any magic, even the basics, you need to

dedicate time to practice. Most magic tricks use sleight of

hand, movements so precise and quick that the eye does not see

them. The result to the audience is having the belief that some

amazing thing just happened. However, to reach this point, even

if you have just one magic trick, you will need to spend months

honing your skill. To be successful with any magic trick, never

compromise your standards.

10 Reasons to Start Learning Magic Tricks

Have you ever watched a magician performing, and thought about getting started with learning magic tricks yourself? Here we'll look at 10 good reasons why you should act on that thought, and start learning to perform magic tricks.

1 Entertain Family and Friends

If you know a few good magic tricks, you can have some real fun performing them in front of family and friends, it definitely adds something different to an event, and creates a real talking point. Also, many magic tricks can be performed with items you can find almost anywhere, like cards, coins and table napkins, so it needn't require a whole load of equipment. That means it can be easy to improvise a quick magic performance in many different social situations.

2 Put On A Show For Kids

Kids love magic tricks, and being able to perform some magic at kids parties is a really good skill to have. Parents are always looking for ways to entertain their kids at birthday parties, so being able to mention that you 'can do a few magic tricks' might lead to you getting involved in a performance. Keep it simple and involve lots of humour and audience participation, and it'll go down a treat.

3 Break The Ice At Parties / Meetings

Doing a few quick magic tricks can be a great way of breaking the ice at a party or meeting. It gets people talking, and they'll be interested in finding out about your magical skills. A good place to start with this is with 'table magic', after a good meal. People are relaxed, and doing some magic tricks with coins or tableware can create a real buzz.

4 Find Enjoyment With A New Hobby

These days, it's very easy to get submerged in the routines of daily life, so it's good and healthy to have some other interests. Learning magic tricks doesn't have to take up a lot of time at first, but it can be a good way of relaxing. There are plenty of tricks and skills to learn, so there will never be any shortage of material to get stuck into!

5 Enjoy People Asking 'How Did You Do That', and Enjoy Not Telling Them!

There's something really satisfying about performing a trick to an audience, then afterwards having someone ask you how you did it. Many tricks often have a very simple 'secret', but to members of the audience unaware of this, it can often seem quite baffling, which is obviously why people are drawn to someone performing a magic trick. It's most important though not to let on how the trick was done - it's best to create the illusion that you can really perform magical acts, and leave them scratching their heads!

6 Build Self Confidence and Presentation Skills

As you practice and rehearse a particular trick, you first learn the mechanics of performing a trick, i.e. the 'secret' behind it. Perhaps even more important than the 'how to' though, is the presentation and patter that you go through when performing in front of an audience. That can really help build your self confidence, and presentation skills in front of people generally, which can be useful in other situations.

7 Develop Your Creativity - Modify Tricks & Make Them Your Own

If you take one magic trick, and ask 100 magicians to perform it, you'll get 100 unique performances. Even though the elements of the trick are the same, each one will put their own special spin on it to make it their own. You can really have fun with this, taking an existing trick and figuring out how to tweak and change it so that it becomes something completely your own, even a totally new trick.

8 Add A Unique Aspect To A Presentation or Speech

Have you ever sat through a boring presentation or speech? Probably quite a few. If you're giving a presentation or speech, working a magic trick or two into it can be a good way to get people's attention, so they're more likely to listen to the rest of your talk. You can even do this in a way that illustrates the topic of your speech, by a careful choice of trick.

9 Have A Hobby Which Can Earn You Extra Money

If you persevere with learning and performing magic tricks, you may well get to the point where you can earn some money for your performances, say for kids parties, or local corporate events. Organisers of company dinners often arrange for magicians to entertain their guests by performing magic tricks at tables. Or your local restaurant might be interested in someone who can entertain their diners. Once you have some solid trick performances under your belt, there are plenty of ways to earn extra money by performing.

10 Carry On a Rich Tradition of Performance Magic That's Centuries Old

Magic has been performed in front of audiences for thousands of years, and there is a rich history of great magicians who have amazed people in the past. Even when doing simple magic tricks yourself, it's good to know that you're carrying on this tradition, and are following in the footsteps of those famous magicians from yesterday. Studying the history of magic is also useful for learning about different tricks and performance styles.

Magic Tricks For Kids - Enjoyment For the Whole Family

Magic tricks provide affordable, engaging activity for your kids and entertainment for the entire family. Kids are intrigued with the skill and mystery that tricks can offer. They enjoy trying to "figure it out." And once they do know the secrets behind a few tricks, kids never tire of surprising friends and family members with their newfound hobby!

Magic tricks appeal to the inquisitive side of a child's mind. Boys especially want to know what makes things work. They see mechanical devices and immediately want to take them apart. Some would rather take toys apart and put them back together than play with them!

There are also educational benefits for your "little Houdini" who desires to learn magic tricks. Buying books or CDs that reveal how to prepare and perform tricks can help your kids learn fun tricks and develop valuable manual as well as mental skills for future learning. They'll need to memorize every aspect of the trick from start to finish, which enhances memory. They'll learn to use swift hand motions and add new words to their vocabulary to use interesting conversation while performing in front of an audience. Magicians often talk their way through magic trick performances, so your kids will become accustomed to speaking in front of people. This skill alone can help with many aspects of life - giving verbal essays in front of class, participating in school or church plays, and public speaking at functions when older such as business meetings or conferences.

Finding the Right Magic Tricks

To get started, find out which magicians your kids enjoy the most or the types of tricks they prefer. Some magicians to consider include Derren Brown, David Copperfield, Paul Harris, and David Blaine. Magic tricks vary according to who performs them and the tools and methods used. Some use street magic while others have elaborate performances. Kids might like learning simple magic tricks or they might enjoy putting on entire shows for family gatherings.

Once you have an idea of what type of magic your child desires to learn, you can find plenty of books and magic products online. Search for magic resources using key phrases including the name of their favorite magician, such as "Criss Angel magic tricks" or "David Blaine magic tricks." This will narrow your search to the magic tricks that will appeal to your child.

Take it slow and start with some easy, age appropriate tricks. Then work with your child if he/she chooses to learn more advanced maneuvers. Allow them to practice in front of your immediate family before performing in front of large groups. For very young children, be sure the tricks will be easy to accomplish for their small hands and little fingers. Compliment them on a job well done (even if they mess up occasionally). Make much of their achievements so they'll be eager to learn more. It's a great way to spend time together while engaging in an enjoyable activity!

The Art of Magic Tricks

Magic tricks are enjoyed by people from all over the world. It is something that seems to be a universal language that entertains both young and old.

Many people attempt to become amateur magicians as a way of entertaining family and friends. If someone wants to become a good magician, it would be helpful to know the different varieties of magic tricks before performing them.

The first type that most people are familiar with is stage magic. This is the most difficult type of magic trick and is often associated with famous magicians such as David Copperfield, Lance Burton, and David Blaine. These types of magic tricks require a great deal of skill to perform and usually involve grand schemes like making a large landmark disappear or walking through walls.

The next type is called platform magic and is done on a somewhat smaller scale. These type of magic tricks are quite a bit easier to perform than most stage magic tricks and involve tricks such as sawing a person in half or levitating.

And finally, the last type of magic trick is called close up magic. This type requires the least amount of skill and can be learned with a little effort. These type of magic tricks include magic card tricks, coin tricks, cigarette through quarter, pencil through bill etc.

There are many different tricks that can be learned by just about anyone willing to practice. The secret to remember is to never reveal how you do your magic tricks to your audience.

The quickest path to acheiving your status as a master magician is to be able to perform magic tricks at a moments notice using a wide variety of borrowed objects. If you are handed a pencil, a coin, a handkerchief, or a dollar bill, you should be able to perform at least one magic trick with any of these objects. Another key thing to remember is that only a tiny fraction of the magic is what you do, and the rest is how you do it. If speaking candidly, many magicians would tell you that most of the tricks they perform are very easy, but to the audience, they are spectacular! It is all about how you present yourself to the audience: your timing, your sense of humor and your ability to distract are very important. So remember, with a little practice and showmanship, you can learn to be the life of the party by performing simple magic tricks.

Magic Tricks - Everybody's Favorites Types

It's hard to resist a magic trick. Most of us love a good magic trick, whether we admit it or not. It doesn't matter whether it's live or on television, a good magic trick can still capture your interest and puzzle your brain. You can see the same trick many times, right up close, and still be amazed and impressed when you can't figure out how it's done.

There are a number of different types or styles of magic trick, and most people have a favorite. Perhaps your preference is for a spectacular trick, or you might prefer one that's close-up and intimate so you can challenge your own senses and perceptions. Which is your favorite?

Parlor Magic

Some find parlor magic tricks a little old fashioned, but they are still very popular today. A magician would be booked for a party and perform for the guests. Generally the magician stands on one side of the room, with the audience seated opposite. Parlor magic tricks are usually big enough for all the audience to see, and is closest to the style of show you see in a small scale stage show. A magician, perhaps a table, a few accessories such as a hat or a box, and that's parlor magic. An example would be the linking rings magic trick.

Palace Magic

Palace magic is a step up from parlor magic. It's bigger, with smoke and mirrors, perhaps live animals, and is performed on a larger stage. This is often the type of magic show that is shown on television. The effects need to be larger, so they can be seen by a much larger audience. It's pointless performing magic tricks such as card or coin tricks, because the audience can't see things in that detail. Tricks such as the magician and his assistant changing places, sawing a woman in half and making items vanish or appear are popular in palace magic. There also tends to be a much stronger element of drama in palace magic, with costumes, lighting and scenery all combining to enhance the make believe.

Close Up Magic

Although many people like the thrill and drama of parlor and palace magic, there's no doubt that if you want to disbelieve your own eyes, it's sometimes the simplest things that amaze the most. That's why close up magic is still so popular. This type of trick is generally performed on a plain table, with nothing but the magician and some cards or coins. It can be performed by street magicians without the use of a table. The skill and sleight of hand developed by the magician makes it hard to believe what we see, and are all the more mind boggling because you think that being so close you'd be able to see how the magic trick is done.

No matter which type of magic tricks you prefer, it's a testament to the skill and artistry of magicians that we are still amazed and entertained by this fascinating entertainment, many times even after someone has spilled the beans about how the trick is performed.

Learn How To Do Magic Tricks - Tips For Parents And Kids

In my magic courses and magic shows, I'm often asked how parents can foster their child's interest in magic.

Below are a few important steps to help to your kids learn how to do magic tricks and explore the Art of Magic.

1.Encourage your children to learn how to do magic tricks through the local library.

You don't need to buy the latest magic set or stacks of DVDs on sleight of hand to learn how to do magic. Libraries have a ton of resources on magic, magic history, juggling, and magic specifically for kids. It doesn't hurt that all this knowledge is FREE! A good beginner's book in magic will provide the initial foundation for your child to learn several magic tricks and help assess their interest in learning more about the Art of Magic.

2. Remind them to practice both the "moves" and the "story" when learning the magic trick. Magicians refer to their "story" as patter. Patter is the words used in the presentation of the magic trick. Kids (and adults) new to magic often focus purely on the "moves" rather than the presentation. Reminding the performer to focus on the story as well as the moves will only help your son or daughter become more proficient in their performance. Plus their magic trick will be more entertaining!

3. Visit your local magic shop

The library has a lot of resources, but a magic shop is often the defacto hot spot for any budding performer. Reputable magic shops are staffed with experienced prestidigitators that can help your child learn how to do magic. Watch out for any magic dealer who will sell an expensive magic prop without considering the skill of the performer. When purchasing magic, my recommendation is to invest in books before DVDs. Books have a lot of material that can be referred to time and time again. DVDs are good too however, the latest trend in magic is to release one trick per DVD. You want to ensure you get the most magic for your investment. The DVD will also show how the effect will be presented as well as the "secret". Both books and DVDs are useful learning tools. I prefer these to the standard tricks you find in the glass booths...but those are fun too! Magic shops will sometime host magic nights where local magicians get together and have a "jam session" demonstrating their latest magical pursuit.

4. Join a local magic assembly, ring, or group.

If you search http://www.magicsam.com or http://www.magician.org, you can find a local Assembly or Ring comprised of local magicians in your metropolitan area. Magic meetings are a fun place to network with other hobbyists, professionals, and newbies interested in the Art of Magic. Most magic organizations are welcoming of new members and are willing to share the secrets of their trade. However, the student must be willing to learn and practice rather than expect all the secrets to be revealed.

5. Attend a magic convention

Magic conventions are another excellent way to meet other magicians, see different magic acts, meet different magic vendors, and purchase new magic. Most conventions are held in a hotel where magicians provide lectures, advice, perform parlor sized shows, and even perform full scale theater shows. Every night magicians gather in the lobby and session with each other. It is another easy way to make new friends and learn a few new tricks of the trade.

I hope you found these tips helpful in your child's pursuit of learning how to do magic.

Magic: The Complete Course (Book and DVD)

Magic is everywhere, from the big spectacle celebrity of David Copperfield and Siegfried and Roy to the quirky Penn and Teller to the spooky David Blaine and Criss Angel to the endless material on YouTube. But until now, learning it has never been easy—that's all about to change with Magic, a book that does for close-up magic what How to Grill does for barbecue. Written by charismatic young magician Joshua Jay, Magic combines expertise, photographs, step-by-step directions showing how to perform 100 tricks, and a DVD that demonstrates 35 of them.

Joshua Jay took home the top prize at the World Magic Seminar (the Olympics of magic) when he was just 16 years old. Ten years later, he continues to perform magic, write about magic, eat, sleep, and breathe magic. Here, he brings all his passion and knowledge to teaching magic. Each trick is broken down into the Effect, the Secret, the Set-up, and, most important, the Performance, with lessons on what to say, how to direct the audience's attention, where to keep your hands, and so on. (In other words, how to be smart about the things your audience is surprisingly clueless about.)

Here are the Ten Greatest Card Tricks; tricks to dazzle a dinner date; tricks to perform for the boss (poke a hole through his shirt, then magically mend it); tricks especially for kids; and even tricks for an audience in another state—with "Australian Self-Help," you can find a participant's chosen card over the phone. It's the Aha! book for a subject whose time has come.
